Charbhinti’ is a martyr’s memorial in the center of Satara city. It is also a tourist destination. Considering the major places in Satara, Charbhinti is a historical monument with historical heritage. The monument is near Ajinkyatara fort in Satara city. Below this monument is the office of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, the largest institution in Asia.
The historical heritage of this monument first seen by Chhatrapati Pratap Sinha Maharaj in 1830. As it was the capital of Marathas since ancient times, a procession of Chhatrapatis is taken out from Satara on the day of Vijaya Dashami. This ‘Four Walls’ was constructed so that the procession could be seen by the women of the royal family. This place is also known as ‘Nazar Mahal’. Later, a monument build here in memory of the martyrs of the War of Independence of 1857. As the name suggests, the monument has walls on all four sides, with a pillar in the middle on which a corner is erected in memory of the martyrs. In this place, you can see the corner that reminds us of Rani Lakshmibai, Tatya Tope, Rango Bapuji Gupte. It was built to mark the 100th anniversary of the first war of independence against the British. The monument was renovated in 2001. We can see this monument on the way to Ajinkyatara fort. From this place you can get a closer look at the city of Satara.
