Sajjangad meaning Fort of Good People is located near the city of Satara, India. The fort was constructed by bahamani Emperors. After that in (1527-1686). It came under Adilshah dynasty. Mughal king defeat Adilshah than it came under Mughals. The Maratha Empire tasted the victory of this fort also from the Mughal Empire as they were emerging as a superpower in the entire Western India by that time. This fort was then handed over as a gift from the Shivaji Maharaj to a well-known Hindu religious saint Ramdas. Shivaji Maharaj then requested the Saint to make this place as his monastery. Previously known as Parali.  Many names were given to this fort by the change of its control, but Sajjangad is the most common name that is known by the people over here.

Sajjangad (Fort) is a very famous place for pilgrims in Maharashtra. It is situated just 9 kilometers away from Satara city. Sajjangad is 3000 feet above sea level. Spiritual guru of Shivaji Maharaj-Sant Ramdas Swami lived here for whole of his life and took ‘Samadhi’ here.

Sajjangad fortifications on the hill can be clearly seen. It is possible to reach the top of the fort by vehicle from there You need to climb 750 steps to enter into this Fort. There are two temples ‘Samartha Shejghar’ and ‘Ram Mandir ‘on the fort. The maintenance of the fort and the Samadhi (final resting place) of Ramdas is taken care by Ramdas Swami Sansthan, a trust which has existed since the time of Shri Ramdas Swami. The daily routine of the trustees on the fort includes morning prayers, Abhishek and Puja, Maha Naivedya, Bhajans and reading of the manuscript Dasbodh written by Sant Ramdas.

The fort is open to public till sunset because the main doors of the fort are closed on sunset to sunrise and hence you cannot enter the fort or even exit from the fort during this time. Even Though, Sajjangad is not a picnic spot, but has a lot of spiritual importance. And hence is a nice place to visit.

How to visit Sajjangad: It is a close to Satara city you can visit Satara by State Transport (ST) or private buses. From Satara, there are frequent rickshaws or buses available to the place.
