Koregaon Satara

Koregaon is situated in the heart of Satara Maharashtra. South koregaon is famous for its fertile land as river Krishna flows through south, but north Koregaon is a drought prone area. Koregaon is situated on the banks of river Krishna. It’s a business center and all the agricultural business is done here. It’s famous for a good quality of beans called as “Waghya Ghavda”. 19km away from koregaon is a small village of kanherkhed. It is the place where the founder of the of the Sindhia Dynasty “Ranoji Shinde” Of Gwalior was born. You can still find the ruins of his palace in the village. There are lot of temples temples in Koregaon belonging to the Pandavas, Yadavas period like the Mahadev temple in Chimangaon, Tareshwar temple in Rahimatpur and famous Vittal – Rukmini temple in Devour which resembles the replica of the Pandharpur temple. There is also a 300 old Jain temple of Parshavnath Godaji Maharaj.

KINHAI (PANTANCHI) – 11km north of Koregaon and 8km west of Satara  and situated on the banks of river “Vasna’ a small village called Kinhai is situated.

This place was ruled by the Panthpratinidhi’s of Aundh but with the merge of the princely state kanhai was reunited into Koregaon still you can find the old palace of the Panthpratinidhi’s. the ruler of Aundh did not believe in caste system which was a social evil in the society. He established a incense factory so that people of all caste could work on a common platform and in this way could break the evil of caste system.

TRIKUTI: Trikuti is another famous place where saint called Gopalnath Maharaj lived and his Samadhi is situated in this village.

RAHIMATPUR – 15km south of satara is the historic city of Rahimatpur founded by Randullaha Khan who was a general  in the Adilshahi Sultanate. It has also the tomb of  Baba Mir Sayyad Hussain a sufi saint. On the banks of  the river there is a dome called as “Mother – Daughter Dome”. It belongs to the wife of Randullaha Khan “jahangiribi mashed” and his daughter.

  1. Hey, this is great website of Satara District, which gives good information about famous spots and historical importance. But some data has manipulated say, population of Koregaon is 2, 53, 225 which figure is absolutely wrong.. so, kindly correct it…
