Karad

Karad city situated on Krishan and Koyna River Confluence is called Preeti Sangam, which means Lovely Meeting. Karad is known as the Sugar bowl of Maharashtra. Karad is having many Suger factories in and around the city. Karad also has educational institutes called Government Colleges of Engineering, Government College of Pharmacy, Yashwantrao Chavan College of Science, Venutai Chavan College of Arts and Commerce, Krishna Institute of Medical Science, Sadguru Gadge Maharaj College(SGM).

In Maharashtra, Politics Karad has great impact because of Late Yashvantrao Chavan who was the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Deputy Prime Minister of India. Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan is also from Karad. Prithviraj Chavan started his political career in Karad in 1991 and won the Lok Sabha seat.
